Why choose PET-CT?
A painless, fast, and accurate examination for the early detection of cancer.
In Hungary, PET-CT is primarily used in oncology to further investigate known cancer cases. It is essential for assessing the extent of tumors and detecting metastases, monitoring treatment progress and effectiveness, identifying the optimal biopsy site, and planning PET-CT-based radiation therapy.
As Hungary’s first cancer diagnostic center, ScanoMed is a leader in PET-CT examinations, having performed over 150,000 scans across our centers. At both our Budapest and Debrecen locations, patients are cared for by dedicated professionals with outstanding experience and expertise.
PET-CT scans can detect cancer at a very early stage.
PET-CT is the combination of two imaging techniques: the widely used CT (Computed Tomography) and the more recent PET (Positron Emission Tomography), which has gained ground over the past few decades. Unlike other imaging methods, PET-CT provides not only anatomical information about the shape and structure of organs but also valuable insight into the metabolic activity of tissues.
Diseases typically cause functional changes in the affected organ before any visible anatomical alterations occur. PET-CT plays a crucial role by fusing metabolic images obtained through PET with the anatomical images captured by CT. This fusion enables the simultaneous visualization of both types of data, offering additional diagnostic value unmatched by other imaging modalities.
As a result, PET-CT can detect cancer at a very early stage — often before structural changes become apparent.
Avoid any physically strenuous activities for 72 hours before the examination.
Do not eat for at least 6 hours prior to the scan, but drink plenty of still water or non-carbonated mineral water.
Take your prescribed medications as usual, unless instructed otherwise.
If you are diabetic, please make sure to inform our staff when scheduling your appointment so that we can provide specific preparation instructions.
On the day of the scan, do not consume alcohol, smoke, chew gum, or suck on candy.
Please remember to bring your ID card, social security card (TAJ), and any previous medical records (CT, MRI) along with CDs or download links to previous imaging materials.
